Malorie Blackman Site Launch

It’s an an absolute pleasure to welcome Malorie Blackman back to the Frequency fold. It was an honour to have created Malorie’s site almost 20 years ago and now launching her brand new site is a wonderful “full circle” moment.

Malorie’s impact on children’s reading in Britain and around the world cannot be overstated.

In addition to the much lauded Noughts and Crosses series Malorie’s work of of over seventy books for children and young adults, includes Pig Heart Boy, Boys Don’t Cry, Thief and a science-fiction thriller, Chasing the Stars.

Many of her books have also been adapted for stage and television, including a BAFTA-award-winning BBC production of Pig-Heart Boy and a Pilot Theatre stage adaptation by Sabrina Mahfouz of Noughts &  Crosses with will be touring in 2026.

The BBC adaptation of Noughts + Crosses premiered on BBC One on March 5, 2020, with all episodes dropping simultaneously on BBC iPlayer. The six-part first season stars Jack Rowan as Callum McGregor, a Nought drawn into rebellion, and Masali Baduza as Sephy Hadley, the privileged Cross daughter whose forbidden romance with him challenges societal divides. Produced by Mammoth Screen, the series incorporates new characters like journalist Kolawale (played by Stormzy) absent from the book, while retaining core themes of racial injustice, miscegenation taboos, and resistance.

In 2005 Malorie was honoured with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the world of children's books.

In 2008 she received an OBE for her services to children's literature, and between 2013 and 2015 she was the UK Children's Laureate.

Malorie co-wrote the Doctor Who episode *Rosa*, and her autobiography “Just Sayin’” was published by in 2023.

In 2026 Noughts and Crosses, Malorie’s groundbreaking series celebrates 25 years in print.
